County is in the Sacramento Valley. This is in contrast to neighboring
counties such as Butte and Yuba, which extend into the Sierra Nevada
mountains. In 1996, Sutter was the second largest agricultural producer
among Sacramento Valley counties. Its leading commodities, rice, prunes,
tomatoes, peaches, and head lettuce helped create $302,706,000 in
agricultural value in 1996. Sutter has 1,360 farms and farm related jobs
